Key Company Developments

  • In 1948, following the sale of the original Robert H Morton Company in Wishaw, Lanarkshire, Robert Henry Morton started an agency selling large bakery plant in Glasgow. In the mid 1955 the Partnership became the Scottish Agents for Bartlett Catering Equipment which took them into the Institutional Catering Sector all over Scotland. His Nephew, George Robert Morton Watson joined the firm in 1961 as a Design and Service Engineer and following the death of "Bob" Morton moved the firm from Robertson Street in Glasgow to their current premises in the East End of Glasgow where he started to manufacture commercial catering equipment and stainless steel fabrication. The firm became Limited in 1976. Ten years later, George's long term partner, Judith Tatham took a financial interest and came to work in the business as Financial & Commercial Director following a career in the motor trade.
  • The 1970's and 80's saw Morton's undertake major contract work for the Stakis Hotel and Casino Group, Thistle Hotels and a range of Restaurants and Industrial/Institutional canteens. It also saw the first marine work on the American Navy Vessels moored in the Clyde, followed by work at Coalport and Faslane and then on the North Sea Rigs.
  • George Watson developed the Morton Vapour Heated Bain Marie which is still made today and is ideally suitable for all day food operations, and for marine applications. He was in demand by the Offshore Sector and then in the 1990's the Company was introduced to Caledonian MacBrayne Ferries and during that decade put new Self Service Counters on to eight of their major vessels, and supported them with Service and Equipment sales, and the Design and production of menus, price lists and signage.
  • Major contracts during the 1990's and beginning of the next decade included five contracts at Newcastle University and several at Stirling University in the Refectories, Bars and Sports Clubs. A string of Bingo Halls for CAC Leisure and the Littlejohn Restaurant chain followed, as well as the Kitchen and Bar at the Equestrian Centre at Gleneagles.
  • Tragically in 1996 George Watson passed away aged only 56, and with great support and loyalty from the staff, Judith Tatham has continued to lead the company and continue its development to where it is today, investing in the Workshop Machinery and IT infrastructure steadily over the years. She is a strong believer that a business is only as good as the staff who collectively make it what it is, and that it can never stand still.
  • In 2016 Mark Rodden was appointed Sales Director after over 25 years with the firm, starting as a Design Draughtsman aged 17, attaining an HND in Manufacturing and moving on to Project Manager and Director. Backed with a good team the Company has a very good quality and long standing customer base which includes five Michelin Star Restaurants and some of the best Eating Establishments and Hotels in Scotland. It has continued to undertake the manufacture and supply of Marine Galley Equipment.
